Nordic Mythology - 2 Creation

At all times mankind has tried to explain the inexplicable. The most modern of theories about creation, The Big Bang have attracted approval from scientists and researchers and is as close as possible to be understood by the general population, thanks to a widespread high educational level and a flexibility of mind to follow a scientific approach instead of accepting ancient mythology.

However, the old Nordic view on creation parallel the Big Bang Theory and our ancestors have a quite modern approach and leave inconsistency to be filled in as more knowledge shed new light. They didn't need to defend their belief against other beliefs. they just added it to their stories. Almost as modern science does with new theories

In the beginning was nothing except cold and warm. The cold was Nivlheim, the dark, foggy home. The warm was Muspelheim, the inferno of flames and light.

The abyss between them was empty and infinite. This gap was called Ginnungagap.

In the empty space, nourished by the fire and formed by the ice and cold, a giant called Yme saw its birth. It was an enormous twin gender troll which was never seen before, nor after! As the heat continuously melted the ice a big cow formed by the drops of melted ice. It's name was Audhumla. The cow began to lick the stones around her and her udder shed milk flowing as rivers out of her. Yme was fed from milk from Audhumla.

As Audhumla continued to lick the rime off the stones some hair seemed to grow out of the stone. The next day a new creature was freed out of that stone. It was Bure who became the first of the Gods they called Æsirs (pron Aceer, pl. Aceers)

Yme gave birth to a son while he slept, Trudgelmir. He had six heads and gave birth to Bergelme who became forefather to the Rimtusses and the Jotnes  (pron. Yotun, pl. Yotnes) which are the underground creatures. The Norwegian mountains Jotunheim are the home of the Jotnes. Rimtusses live in the low lands and the woods

The different creatures breed with each other. The main God, Ođin (pron. Othin, Or modern Odin) is the son of the Jotne's daughter Bestla and Bure's son Bor, but the rimtusses make so much chaos and breed so uninhibited that one day Ođin and his brothers, Vilje and Ve (Will and Sorrow/pain) have to fight them in the battle between good and evil.

Yme is killed and his blood washes as a tsunami over the Jotnes and they are drowned. Only Bergelme and his wife escaped and fled into Nivlheim. They are the ancestors of all later Rimtusses and Jotnes.  Audhumla has never been seen after this. She is supposed to have been washed over the edge and disappeared in the abyss.

If somebody question this story I have to admit that I didn't live at that time, and I have only been told this. I can neither verify or falsify the origin.
